About

Beyond the stage

The Everyman Theatre believes passionately that the arts have the power to change lives. Our Education and Community department's mission is to widen access to arts and culture; and enhance our local community's day to day lives. We aim to foster connections through creativity.

As a registered charity, we re-invest any operating profits from the Theatre into our education, community and access work. This plus annual funding from Arts Council England, Cheltenham Borough Council and other grants and donations enable us to positively impact over 20,000 people each year in our goal to make the arts accessible for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you come work with my school / youth group / community group?

If you are Gloucestershire based, get in touch and we'll see what we can do! Please let us know if you have a budget/funding to support the request. If you don't then we'll support where we can but we have limited resources and may have committed our outreach budget for the year...but we'll always help where possible.

I'd love for me or my child to get involved with one of your regular groups but it's out of our budget - can I get support with this?

We work hard to ensure all our groups are affordable whilst sustainable for us as a charity alongside our free creative outreach projects/workshops, but where finances are a barrier we also offer partial or fully funded bursaries for Youth Theatre, Summer Schools and Everyvoice Choirs. Please get in touch as we'd love to support you or your child to join our creative community.

Do you offer work experience placements?

We're working on this but at present we're unable to offer work experience / careers insight opportunities beyond the opportunities in our Youth Theatre and through our collaborations with Stagedoor Learning, University of Gloucestershire and other schools/colleges. We recommend that young people interested in a career in performing arts get involved with a Youth Theatre and/or local amateur dramatics groups - lots of brilliant ones in Gloucestershire - who often have opportunities for children, young people and adults alike to get stuck in on stage and backstage.

Would you like to attend a careers fair?

As a small team we have limited time and resources so for schools/colleges/youth groups who have students interested in performing arts careers we'd much rather offer a tailored educational tour for small groups that give insight into how theatre works both on and off stage as these have more impact.

I don't know what I'd like to 'get involved' in, but I'm lonely and would love to be creative. Where do I start?

Please get in contact and let us know a bit about yourself and we'll signpost you to what we've got on that may be of interest. We love hearing from people who want to make new friends and get creative!

I'd like to make a personal donation, or I'm involved with a grant-giving organisation or business and would love to support the work you do. Who do I contact?

We're always delighted to hear from people who want to support our work and help us grow our impact. Please contact francescca.goddard@everymantheatre.org.uk who will send you further information.

I'm a freelance creative - how can I get involved with your work?

Click the 'Contact Us' button on this page and send us an overview of your experience and what you do. It's great if you can share with us your Public Liability Insurance certificate (you may have this through your Equity or BECTU membership if applicable) and if you have a DBS certificate from the past three years or if you're on the update system.  We will keep your information and be in touch if find an opportunity to work together.

How is your work funded?

We are proud to be an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and as a charity, the Everyman Theatre reinvests it's profits into the running of our historically significant grade 2 listed theatre and education and community work. We're also supported by Cheltenham Borough Council and proactively seek other grants and donations each year to further our impact and provide less advantaged communities with free or low cost creative opportunities.

We're a production company and want to bring a show to the Everyman Theatre - who do we contact?

We hate to say it but that's 'not our department' - but we'll gladly point you in the right direction! Email admin@everymantheatre.org.uk who will pass this on to the right people.

We loved partnering with the Everyman on the Acting Up project. It gave young people a great opportunity to engage in a quality activity they wouldn't usually get to do. It was fantastic to see how the project connected with those who could become disengaged from mainstream education. The cooperation demonstrated by young people at the end of the project was very impressive Thanks so much!

Andy Macauly, Operations Manager at The Rock:

Personally I joined the choir at a low point in my life, it gave me a weekly boost of happiness when I needed it most. I see many others go through a similar journey and become part of what is a genuine family of truly caring people. Choir people seem to be naturally good people, singing in a group requires co-operation and leaving your ego at the door. I have made lifelong friendships over the years that extend way beyond choir activities

Charlotte, Everyvoice Seven O’Clock Sounds Member

The activities were delivered at an appropriate level for our families, ensuring engagement and accessibility. Each session was of high quality and represented excellent value. It was particularly rewarding to observe the children participating enthusiastically across all activities and, in some cases, excelling. As professionals, witnessing their potential being realised was inspiring.

Acting Up

Thank you so much for such an amazing experience. I need to tell you they seemed to have formed friends for life - they still message all the time and meet up on weekends. It's divine!

Everyman Youth Theatre parent/guardian

Golden Voices was absolutely amazing for my mum who suffers with Alzheimers Dementia. She usually has just moments of focus but here she sang to every song for the full 45 minutes. I will definitely keep bringing her.  She thoroughly enjoyed it and all the Everyman staff were so welcoming and wonderful with her.  It is such a lifeline to carers who can feel so isolated. It's just such a positive, refuelling time that helps the carer get through the week. Thank you so much to all involved.

Golden Voices member and family carer

I was recently involved in the Everyvoice parent and baby choir and I think it was one of the nicest things I have ever done. Everyman Theatre do lots of community things so check them out!

Anna, who took part in our Babes in Arms project at Gardner's Lane Children's Centre

Here you feel like your life is getting better because you have a community that loves you and wants to be around you. Here we laugh. All week we don't laugh, but here we laugh.
