The Sound Voice Project - Part of Cheltenham Music Festival

A unique opera performance installation exploring powerful stories of voice loss and identity. Composer Hannah Conway and writer Hazel Gould Video collaborate with video designer Luke Halls and sound designer David Sheppard to create three gripping, surround-sound, audio-visual settings from The Sound Voice Project; Tanja, Paul, and I Left My Voice Behind.

Each is a deeply personal and distinct experience. By turns uplifting and heart-rending, it is a celebration of the beauty and intrinsic value of the human voice. The installation invites audiences to consider wider issues of voice and identity, asking ‘what is a voice’ and ‘what happens when it is gone?’

The three works are experienced consecutively as a 25-minute performance installation.

Winner at FEDORA Prizes 2022, The Ivors Composer Awards 2022 and Sheffield DocFest 2022.
