Bolan's Shoes - part of the Cheltenham International Film Festival
This screening forms part of Cheltenham International Film Festival, which marks its 5th anniversary in 2023. The festival will screen new films from around the world, plus film classics and is adding television, and new live events to its programme, along with guest celebrities.
Timothy Spall joins us for this screening of this glamtastic new drama.
T-Rex’s Marc Bolan was an inspiration to many in the 1970’s before his untimely death. One of those people was teenager Penny (Leanne Best), for whom her hero’s music helped her during difficult times in a children’s home. Bolan’s Shoes moves between reliving that period and the modern day when Penny decides to go on a pilgrimage to Bolan’s shrine in London in honour of what would have been his 75th birthday. A chance encounter with an old acquaintance brings back painful memories.
Featuring a remarkable performance from a long-haired Timothy Spall, this glittering celebration of 70’s culture is both nostalgic and disturbing in its exploration of childhood trauma and the life-affirming power of music.
We are proud to welcome Timothy Spall and director Ian Puleston-Davies to the festival
