The Producers

The Producers

The new Mel Brooks musical
Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks

An amateur production presented by the Cheltenham Operatic and Dramatic Society

Expect the unexpected this summer when The Producers - with dazzling dance routines, tantalising tap and magical music numbers – a laugh-out-loud Tony Award winning musical that has been wowing audiences around the world since its’ 2001 debut, comes to town!
Adapted by Brooks’ from his 1968 movie – that regularly features in polls of the funniest films ever made - it tells the story of fading Broadway producer Max Bialystock who is desperate for another success. He finds an unlikely ally in shy accountant Leo Bloom who calculates that one could make far more money with a flop than a hit!

Together Bialystock & Bloom set out to raise $2M dollars – far more than they actually need – to produce the worst musical ever made, (the gloriously outrageous ‘Springtime for Hitler’!) with the worst script, worst director and worst cast they can possibly find. When the show inevitably closes after just one performance they plan to take the money and head to Rio. Or so they think .....

With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers is stuffed full of show stopping numbers including I Wanna Be a Producer; When You've Got It, Flaunt It; Where Did We Go Right; Prisoners of Love; and the unmissable (and equally unbelievable) Springtime for Hitler.

The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an "equal opportunity offender!"

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe)
