Press Release - 2nd July 2014

Everyman Theatre to keep Arts Council Grant

The Everyman Theatre has retained its Arts Council Grant for the next three years, it was announced yesterday. Starting from April 2015, the theatre will receive just over £377,547 each year, the same as for 2014/15.

The Arts Council now fund 670 companies (a drop from 682) and they range from small galleries and festivals to the Royal Opera House, National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and English National Opera, as well as orchestras, opera and ballet companies, regional theatres and touring drama companies, such as Everyman regulars Out of Joint, Northern Broadsides and Stephen Joseph Theatre.

There are 46 new regularly funded companies and 58 lost their grants, including the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Red Ladder and Theatre Royal, Bury St. Edmunds.

Geoffrey Rowe, Everyman Chief Executive commented ” The grant is the same for three years as for 2014/15, so there is no inflation increase but it is the best result we could have hoped for, given that the government has cut the Arts Council’s funds and that 75% of applicants received standstill funding like the Everyman.”
