Everyman commissions new play about Gloucestershire slavery

The Everyman has commissioned a brand new play for audiences in Gloucestershire. Twenty-One Pounds - by local playwright Martin Lytton - is based on real-life events and examines the history of slavery in the county.  It follows the story of Hannah, a Gloucestershire slave and her owners.  As they prepare for the abolition of slavery, they each find in their own way, the real cost of servitude and the true price of freedom.
Directed by the Everyman’s Creative Director, Paul Milton, who directed A Passionate Woman, Beatrix Potter and The Tailor of Gloucester, Mrs Warren’s Profession, Cider with Rosie and Will Harvey’s War, the play runs in the Studio Theatre from Wednesday 24th – Saturday 27th May.
